This Page Is All About Sunderland AFC The World's Greatest Ever Football Team. This Season. So far this season we've been fantastic beating Chelsea 4-1 in our latest match to stay fourth in the league. 1.Thomas Sorenson (Goalkeeper) Thomas has been outstanding since he came to Sunderland at the start of last season. He only missed one came last season and is now close to wrestling away the Denmark no1 shirt from Peter Schmichael. Only 23 he is consided to be one for the future and one of the best goalies in the Premier league and cost a bargain £1 million from Odense. 2. Chris Makin (Right Sided Defender) Signed from french giants Marseilles for £550,000 the 26 year old former Oldham player has impressed in these last two seasons. Consided to be the rock upon which Sunderlands right side is based he links up well with Nikky Summerbee and covers for him too. Only one problem he can't score to save his life! 3.Michael Gray (left sided Defender) Michael is the only Mackem in the Sunderland line up. The 26 year old former Man Utd trainee has spent his entire career with Sunderland and has been in Outstanding form recently leading to 4 full England caps. He was also the player who missed the penaltywhich cost Sunderland promotion in that epic playoff but he's been forgivern right from the start of last season. Sunderland through and through he is one of our best players. 4.Kevin Ball (Central Midfielder) Bally is now 35. And has been at the club for 10 years he recently recieved his testimonial against Sampdoria. Bally is a fighting midfielder who gives his all. Was our captain but has sinced moved to first division Fulham for £200000. 5.Steve Bould (Central Defender) Bouldy was signed from Arsenal in the summer for £500000 and when he came most fans thought that Reid had gone mad signing a 36 year old has been but Reid's been proved right yet again. Steve Bould has been magnificent all season until getting sent off last week against West Ham. He's captained the side on many occasions and hopefully has a good few years left. One of the players of the season so far. 6.Paul Butler (Central Defender). Butler is a true giant and the £1,000,000 signing from Bury has proved a great buy. Reliable last season and superb so far this season. Now making his mind up whether to play for Ireland or Wales national teams. 7.Nikky Summerbee (Right Winger). Some don't like Summerbee saying he's to lazy and doesn't do enough for the team but without his superb crosses Sunderland wouldn't get half as many goals. He's a superb crosser of the ball and is 28. He signed from Manchester City in exchange for Craig Russell. 8.Thomas Helmer (Central Defender)Can't tell you much except he played one game for us before going back to Germany on loan at Berlin. Former Dortmund & Munich player he can play in midfield or defence and he's 34. 9.Niall Quinn (Centre Forward)6'4" tall Niall is a true giant and one of the best headers of the ball in the game. Signed from Man City for £1.2 million in 1996 he was injured for his first season but has weighed in with crucial goals and set ups for Superkev. A regular in the team and about to break Ireland's all time scoring record. When he scores or plays well we Mackem's chant "Niall Quinn's disco pants are the best, they go from his arse up to his chest, he's better than adam and the ants, Niall Quinn's disco pants."I think he was last seasons player of the year. He's 32 years old. 10.Kevin Phillips (Centre Forward). What can you say about Superkev he's a mackem legend. Signed from Watford in 1997 for £600,000 he has scored over 70 goals in just over 90 games. He's currently the Premier league's top scorer with 17 in 17 games despite his lack of hight and pace. Can score from outside the box or from 2 yards. Only 26 theres much more to come from superkev. Scored a thirty yard volley agianst Chlesea and now has 77 goals in 97 games for the Red & White's His chant is "super, super kev, super, superkev, super, superkev, super kevin phillips". 11.Alan Johnston (Left/Right Winger)Magic was superb last season and became a Scotland regular but this season he wont sign a new contract and wont play but he is now rotting at loan to Birmingham City. Unless he signs a new contract we hope he burns in hell. 12.Daniele Dichio (Centre Forward)Deech or Lurch is another giant. 6'3" tall but only 24 some see him as Niall Quinn's long term replacement but to many Sunderland fans he's crap. Lets give him a chance and see if he can recapture the form which made Reid spend £950,000 on him from Sampdoria. Perhaps with a run in the team he'll consistantly produce the genius we know he's capable of. 13.Andy Marriot (Goalkeeper)Welsh international signed from Wrexham but hardly ever plays due to Thomas being so great. Rumours say hes going elsewhere but he says he's happy on Wearside. 14.Darren Holloway (Defender)A versitle defender h was msuperb a few seasons ago but the 21 year old now has to be content for a place on the sidelines. 15.Carsten Fredgaard (Midfield/Striker)Signed from Lyngby for £1.3 million Lightning has hardly played this season. He was the Danish League player of the season last season but has only played three times this season scoring twice though. Hopfully our most hyped player will reproduce last seasons form. He's 23 and the lady's love him. Lucky bastared. 16.Alex Rae (Central Midfield)30 year old Scottish International Alex Rae has had his problems since his £1 million pound move from Millwall but hopefully he's over them now and he's been superb this season. 17.Jody Craddock (Central Defender)Currently on loan to Sheffield United the 25 year old former Cambridge player who cost us £350,000 was magnificent two seasons ago and one an England B cap but since then he's hardly played for us due to the form of our other defenders. 18.Darren Williams (Defender/Midfielder) Same story as Craddock except the £10000 signing from York is still at the club and tipped for success. A versitile player people predict he'll be a regular in the future. 19.Paul Thirlwell (Central Midfield).Currently on loan to Swindon thirlwell is tipped to replace Kevin Ball in a few years and played superbly for the title winning Reserves. Still only 19. 20.Stephan Schwarz (Central/Left Midfielder). Sunderland's record signing at £3.75 million the 30 year old Swedish captain arrived from Valencia. A classy player but has yet to reveal his full potential so far this season probably due to the fact he's been stuck out on the left wing. 21.Gavin McCann (Central Midfielder)22 year old McCann cost £550,000 a year ago from Everton. A regular in the midfield he can deliver a moment of madness but many ask why he's in the team while Oster & Freedgard aren't. 22.Niel Wainwright (Right Winger)A young reserve right winger with pace but needs to improve his cross, only 20 though and perhaps a long term replacement for Summerbee. 23.Chris Lumsdon (Central/Left Midfielder)19 year old ginger haired Chris has yet to make a breakthrough in the first team. One for the future. 24.Sam Aiston (Left Winger)A good player he has suffered injuries and been on loan to Chester and Stoke but perhaps the answer to our left sided problems. 25.Mark Maley (Defender). Don't know anything about this player except he's a regular for the reserves and a young defender perhaps 18 or so. 26.Michael Procter (Centre Forward)Only 19 and a superb prspect but sadly suffered a career threatening injury at the beginning of this season he'll hopefully be back in time for next season. Banged them in left right & centre for Reserves & Youth teams. 27.Thomas Butler (Central Midfielder)Don't know much about this one except he's 17 and a young Irish midfielder. 28.John Oster (Left Winger/Centre Forward)Welsh International signed from Everton for £1.5 million 20 year old Oster played for two games but hasn't played since. A good left winger he needs to improve his touch and he'll be a regular. 29.Eric Roy (Central Midfielder/Defender). Signed from Marseilles for £200,000 32 year old Roy (pronounced Rwa) is a classy midfielder and has impressed during his few appearence. 30.Marcos Di Guisseppe (Centre Forward)Er where do I start. Played just one game on trial from Sport Boys of Peru before going to Walsall amid accusation of Cocaine dealing and Pimpery??? Looked a good player though and he's 27 if your intersted. 31.Michael Reddy (Centre Forward). Signed for £30000 from Kilkenny he is a 19 year old striker who has had more hype than Oasis' last album. A pacy striker who can go past people in the mold of Michael Bridges almost scored from 30 yards with his first touch on his debut. He's the Joe Cole of Sunderland AFC. 35.David Duke (left midfielder/defender).Sorry but I don't know anything about him. Manager: Peter Reid. Reidy is a god in Sunderland despite some sad bastards calling for him to be sacked. He's taken us from nowhere to the pinnacle of the league and why Man City sacked him when he took them to fifth in the league is anyones guess. A bit stingy with the cash but a great manager. Played tons of games for Bolton,Everton,Oldham,Man City & Notts County. Also an England regular in his time. Former Player: Michael Bridges. Sold to Leeds for £5.4 million Bridges is still only 20 and has scored 8 goals for them this season. Why he was sold is anyones guess. Had the potential to be our greatest ever player. Former Player: Lee Clark for this wanker read "Sad Geordie Bastared" he was superb for us the last two seasons after his £1.5 million move from the Scummy Skunks Newcastle Utd. But once a mag always a mag and he bizarly wore a tee-shirt at the FA cup final calling us Sunderland fans "Sad Mackem Bastared's" despite stll playing for us so we sold him for a cut price £3 million to mega rich Fulham so he didn't get lynched mobbed. Former Player: Andy Melville. Superb in Defence last season left for Fulham on a free transfer, A welsh international. Former Player: Martin Smith. Why Pele's son Smithy was allowed to leave us is a mystery. Reid never used him and now the world's best player is speeding down our problem position (the left wing)for Sheffield Utd. He's the division one top scorer and we all wish him well and hope he comes back one day. 23 year old Smith is Sunderland through and through. |
